The Heel of Achilles

June 19, 2008 by BooMan · 1 Comment

My favorite Greek Hero,  Achilles’s only vulnerable spot was his heel by which his mother, Tethis, held him when she dipped him as as infant into the magical river Styx.  Judging by everything that hurts my body these days, I feel that when it was mother’s turn to dip me in the Styx, she opted to have me dry cleaned.

Today was the first time ever that I put my gear on and talked myself out of a run.  Some hero! Some heel!

Goat or Gazelle Relay

June 19, 2008 by Mr Bimble · Leave a Comment

Runners looking to experience a long distance trail race but who are not confident in being able to complete a full 50k may enter the Goat or Gazelle Relay. For the relay, teams of 2 runners will complete the Bluff course that has been divided into 3 sections. The Gazelle will run the first and last section, this route is generally less technical than the mid-section; while the Goat will cover the more ‘mountainous’ middle portion. Teams must nominate who will participate as the Goat or Gazelle at entry. Switching roles after the race has started will not be permitted. The cut off times stated for the individual race shall also apply to the relay. Read more

Welcome to the new look BS web site, after three years it was time for a complete overhaul. The Bulletin Board has been built into the site to save you having to toggle back and forth. The picture gallery has a great new feel with a cool lightbox viewer and all the current images for 2008 have been copied into the gallery. The event calendar is bigger and easier to read, click on any date that contains an entry to see more information, plus linked to it is the Event Update page where messages from races can be posted. About the BS

June 17, 2008 by Mr Bimble · Leave a Comment

The Bimbler’s Sound has grown out of a group of runners who regularly meet to socialize, run and generally have fun. As more is known about the personalities who regularly run with us, a nickname is ‘developed’. The lucky ones get to choose their own - the others get what sticks!

Regular runs take place on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings, plus Wednesday and Thursday evenings from a variety of locations. Details can also be found at the Bimblers Sound Bulletin Board. From these training outings, our runners have gone on to compete in events from 5k to 100 mile ultras! So if you are a beginner, seasoned competitor or someone who simply enjoys running in good company, you are welcome to join us any time.

Crawling from my slumbers around 6:30 this morning, the ominous sound of heavy rain suggested the 28th Branford Road Race was going to be a damp affair. Guthrie and I had no plans to run this year, instead Guth was going to offer post-race massage and I was going to watch. Read more
