Bimblers Bash 10k
September 30, 2008 by Mr Bimble · 3 Comments

The Bimblers Bash 10k is an entirely off-road loop within Westwoods, Guilford made up from a series of interconnecting single track hiking trails. You should expect to negotiate lots of rocks, roots and possibly get your feet wet, plus with two rock scrambles be prepared for an adventure! This is a true trail race and the technical nature of the terrain will mean that you will be exposed to the risk of injury. While every reasonable effort will be made to ensure your safety and enjoyment, runners must be prepared to accept full responsibility for these risks.
The Bash course is rumored to be longer than the advertised distance, is this true? Maybe, but this is the Bash and to us “… the distance isn’t significant …” There are 10k’s and then there is the Bash 10k!
A map of the course can be found here (pdf format)

Ahhhhh…..the half marathon. A whole other beast in the racing world. Despite 2 1/2 years of running, a few ultras here and there and a marathon to boot, I guess it was time to take on the half. Yesterday was my first day back on the trails in close to 2 weeks and I don’t think I have done any roads over 10 miles in a year or more. With that I was excited to push myself.
The morning was far short from dull, since Iggy met at a different meeting point then she had originally posted on the BS. I found my was to exit 57, which she posted. Glen meandered off to exit 59, not to sure why, and Iggy patiently waited at exit 58. After a few phone calls, the crew of Donni, Suresh, Glen, and I piled up in Iggy’s car and made our way up to the race. Read more

While this is neither a detailed race report, nor an exhaustive illustrated travelogue, I feel I must write SOMETHING to make up for my lack of chatter last week. And while my exploits are not nearly as exciting as stories from Spuds this morning of tours of Beaujolais, or Yellowstone for that matter, ANY sort of travel for me is somewhat remarkable. Read more
QUOTE OF THE DAY…

Quote of the day from The Hammer Tri on Sunday attributed to Dorothy….
As the athletes ran from the swim up to the bike transition stations we were cheering them on. It was an uphill run - they we soaked and they were removing their wet suits and clothes as they we running towards us….. Read more
Hammerfest Tri
September 14, 2008 by Mr Bimble · 3 Comments
Scoobie, Guthrie, Snobody, Gazelle and Vinca stepped up to the challenge of the Hammerfest Trathlon earlier today. Heavy dawn rain gave way to overcast skies and a nasty swell in the bay off Owebego that made the swim section particularly tough. The bike leg on slick wet roads wasn’t made any easier by some poor traffic marshaling that came close to causing several accidents. But our famous five all finished in fine form with Guthrie placing 5th overall female and Scoobie 3rd in her age group. Read more
