Plaster cast ‘better for sprains’

Ankle injuries are an unfortunate consequence of running, especially on the trails. Here is an interesting article that I recently spotted on the BBC web site entitled; Plaster cast ‘better for sprains’

People with a sprained ankle recover faster if they are given a plaster cast, British researchers say.

A study of 600 patients found that a 10-day below-knee cast is more effective than standard treatment with a tubular bandage.

Microspikes

spikes_prodAfter going through two pairs of YakTraxs this winter I decided to try something different and bought some Kahtoola Microspikes. I’d thought about buying them before but had been put off by the manufacturers $59 price tag, but decided that if they last longer than my Traks, the investment would be worth it. In the end I purchased them via Amazon from Altrec.com at a lot less than Kahtoola list them at.

So far I’ve used them 3 or 4 times and been impressed. They look pretty aggressive and you can’t help wondering if you’ll do yourself a nasty injury if you fall wearing them. But, they are easy to put on and off and definitely do a good job of providing traction in a range of conditions
