A Swift Kick from Lefty

Right in my butt, and deservedly so, regardless of intent or lack thereof. So, despite the fact that I will now proceed to be completely unoriginal, I will take my lumps for offering too little thanks, too late.

Defying Death Valley

September 28, 2009 by Mr Bimble · Leave a Comment

Here is an interesting article about a runner who has completed12 straight Badwater ultramarathons. During those runs he has confronted many physical ups and downs including on one occasion briefly losing consciousness and an active pulse! The guy is 67 years of age and when asked “What if you died out there?” has the view of “So, what? I gotta go sometime. I’d rather die living than live dying”.

Thanks to the Crew

First off, I really am not the one to be writing this report. I have never been crewed and I have never crewed. But, after I submitted my race report from Curley’s I remembered an important part of the race I neglected to mention. The day was made completely special by the crewing of Diana. Diana is a runner but when I see her at races see is usually crewing and supporting Elaine (Nadia, Sprinkles or whatever).

My first memory of Diana was at Breakneck last year. I don’t believe Shelly Girl and I really knew Elaine at that time, but we both have a very clear memory of completing the race and being confronted ( in a nice way) by this lady who was looking for her friend. It seems they had missed each other out on the course and this lady, Diana, was very concerned that she had let her friend (Elaine) down. After speaking with Loopy on the bite of the bluff today, I am beginning to realize that this is the attitude all crews take. They all seem to have a burning desire to help their runner meet their goal and will do whatever they can to help. Loopy was telling me how stressful crewing can be and how everyone felt this strong sense of obligation to the boys at Iroquois. After seeing Diana at Breakneck,  I believe it! Read more

RR3

Hello all.  I am back and recuperated from our “little” jaunt to Boston.   A fun, successful and highly recommended trip.  Vehicle #1 or “The Old Guys Van” as the youngsters in Vehicle #2 referred to us, started off the trip Friday 9/11 at 1 p.m. from Lighthouse.  Bob Francis was our lead off runner going to the Branford Train Station.  Bob had the misfortune of running all 3 of his legs in the pouring rain.  He also benefited from home field advantage because of the 10 teams that started with him, 8 teams got lost within the first ½ mile!  The course was very well marked the whole way, just ask Alex.  Alex, Alex where are you? Our second date with Curly

Curley's 09 002

This was the second year a group of Bimblers drove up to the Berkshire’s to tackle Curly’s Trail Marathon. With word of course revisions, intended to tame the run, and stunning weather it seemed liked we could expect a great day on the trail.

Shelly Girl is still trying to get her heel issue resolved (Boo!) so it was left to Suds and I to make the 2 hour and 15 minute commute to Pittsfield State Forest and race registration. Upon arrival I noticed one thing, man it was cold! I had not really expected 36 degree weather and we had over an hour to kill before the start of the race. Can you say car heater on full blast! Shortly, Sprinkles and Catamount arrived and we chatted while waiting for the 8:00 a.m. start. Read more
