‘Arthritis risk’ for middle-aged exercise addicts

Middle-aged men and women may be risking arthritis if they overdo their exercise regime, research suggests. An article on the BBC web site reports that a US study of more than 200 people aged 45 to 55 and of “normal” weight found those doing the most exercise were the most likely to suffer knee damage. Of course sitting on the couch for too long can also be harmful to health! Read more

Hankering For Cheese in Philadelphia

While running the Philadelphia Marathon I see the half marathon finish to the right and the rest of the marathon continues to the left. To “Mile 14″ it says. I was kind of wishing I had done the half.  I looked up and I was behind a woman who had a shirt on that said, “Will Run For Cheese”. Read more

Lake Hammonasset, a preserve owned by the Regional Water Authority, offers a nice loop on generally non-technical trails. For a longer run it can be combined with the loop around Chatfield Hollow. To access to these trails you do require an RWA Recreation Permit. Read more
