One down two to go

The first Bite of the Bluff training run has taken place. Just 15 hardy souls set out on a hot sunny Sunday morning for the 8 mile route. Despite flagging placed by the front runners, several still managed to take short detours, but thankfully everyone who entered the woods was accounted for! [Read more...]

NJ Trail Series “Makes Running Fun”

I stumbled upon this series last year while looking for some races closer to home.  Rick McNulty started this series with a goal in mind. “The goal of the NJ Trail Series is to make running FUN again”.  The best part of it is that most of the events are within a two hour drive from most of us, give or take a little.   It started with a couple of Fat Ass events and some races, to a year round series that has something for everyone.   He has short trail races, an ultra running festival with distances up to 100 miles, and timed events.  Well, the timed event is for the running masochist in us all.  [Read more...]

Quote of the Day

If you set a goal for yourself and are able to achieve it, you have won your race. Your goal can be to come in first, to improve your performance, or just finish the race. It’s up to you.

We just returned from the closing banquet. Feels like the end of summer camp. The facts: after stage 1 we were 13th out of 23 teams and after 6 stages we finished 8th out of 21 teams in our division, including finishing 7th the last three stages. Got stronger every day, amazing what the body can do! More important than the facts is the experience. Impossible to put in words. Home tomorrow, tired, sore and proud!

The Prologue:

But my motivation flagged on the heels of a stressful week, so as race-day approached, I had to borrow some of their enthusiasm to forge onward. [Read more...]

BR100 was an awesome adventure. We woke at 6 am to get ready to go to our first aid station of the day, we got lost on the way and saw mom anyway. She was surprised!! When we finally got to Shadow Lake, we met up with Brian and Jay. When we saw mom, she was doing pretty darn good!! [Read more...]

Under an initially overcast sky, they set off for a brief tour of Cockaponsset Forest before returning to feast on a selection of offers that ranged from grilled eggplant to peanut butter energy balls. The rules of badminton were tested to the limit and the conversation covered important topics such as the upcoming Trans-Rockies race and who was planning to run the Bluff! Guess you had to be there.
