I have no idea how to write a race report for Transrockies! How does one condense six days of running and living in the world of this event into something that is both readable in length and does not come across as somewhat egotistical and self important? I don’t know, so I will just let it all hang out and hope everyone judges my intentions as honorable. [Read more...]

Running bear

8

If you are a lover of trail running like me and Shelly Girl well then you have to run Bear Mountain. I mean, the name alone was enough to get us to register and toe the line. Think about it. Question: “Where did you run last weekend?” Answer: “I ran Bear Mountain”. Sounds cool! [Read more...]

Traprock 50k

Let me start by saying we had every intention of running a 34k and not a 50k when we headed up to West Hartford on Saturday morning. Shelly Girl and I had decided that running two loops of the Traprock 50k course would accomplish several things. We could get in our 4 hours of training, we could check out this new event on the running scene, we could run some new trails and we could support the efforts of the folks trying to get this race off the ground. With those thoughts in mind we set off on a rainy morning to run some of the Metacomet Trail. [Read more...]

Sweet H20 50K

“Michele, as we run farther shouldn’t we be getting closer to the finish?” A seemingly logical question had a very illogical answer at the Sweet H20 50K in Lithia Springs Georgia on Saturday.

Wapack in early Spring

11

Hey Michele is that snow I see? What began as an innocent comment would soon become the major theme of our “run” on the Wapack Trail last Saturday.

ShellyGirl and I have been training for the SweetH20 50k in Lithia Springs Georgia and were looking for one more weekend of long training runs before the race in two weeks. [Read more...]

Lil Rhody in memoriam

Little did I know when I woke up Sunday morning that I would find out one of my students had a brain aneurism and would not make it to see to Thanksgiving. Little did I know when I woke up on Sunday that a fellow music teacher had died of a heart attack. Little did I know that I would run the Lil Rhody Runaround in memoriam to these two fellow human beings. [Read more...]

A Beautiful day in Bimbledom

Bluff9

This report is not really about my run today but more about the day itself.  It was perfect! Of course we all know the weather was spectacular and the course was certainly a Bimbler course. Translation? Hard! What made me smile the most had nothing to do with running. [Read more...]

Thanks to the Crew

First off, I really am not the one to be writing this report. I have never been crewed and I have never crewed. But, after I submitted my race report from Curley’s I remembered an important part of the race I neglected to mention. The day was made completely special by the crewing of Diana. Diana is a runner but when I see her at races see is usually crewing and supporting Elaine (Nadia, Sprinkles or whatever).

My first memory of Diana was at Breakneck last year. I don’t believe Shelly Girl and I really knew Elaine at that time, but we both have a very clear memory of completing the race and being confronted ( in a nice way) by this lady who was looking for her friend. It seems they had missed each other out on the course and this lady, Diana, was very concerned that she had let her friend (Elaine) down. After speaking with Loopy on the bite of the bluff today, I am beginning to realize that this is the attitude all crews take. They all seem to have a burning desire to help their runner meet their goal and will do whatever they can to help. Loopy was telling me how stressful crewing can be and how everyone felt this strong sense of obligation to the boys at Iroquois. After seeing Diana at Breakneck,  I believe it! [Read more...]

Our second date with Curly

Curley's 09 002

This was the second year a group of Bimblers drove up to the Berkshire’s to tackle Curly’s Trail Marathon. With word of course revisions, intended to tame the run, and stunning weather it seemed liked we could expect a great day on the trail.

Shelly Girl is still trying to get her heel issue resolved (Boo!) so it was left to Suds and I to make the 2 hour and 15 minute commute to Pittsfield State Forest and race registration. Upon arrival I noticed one thing, man it was cold! I had not really expected 36 degree weather and we had over an hour to kill before the start of the race. Can you say car heater on full blast! Shortly, Sprinkles and Catamount arrived and we chatted while waiting for the 8:00 a.m. start. [Read more...]

Solo adventure at the Wapack Trail race

Wapack Trail run 008

The Wapack Trail race was held in New Ipswich New Hampshire on Sunday, September 6th.  With Bimblers in various states of preparation or recovery I found myself attending this race alone. I figured somebody needed to “represent” our gang, plus I liked the idea of running in two states during one race. [Read more...]
