For those still sitting on the fence as to whether to sign up for the Bash, you may be interested to know that this year’s race shirt will be a wicking technical fabric not cotton. Don’t want to give away too much, but those wearing this years race shirt will definitely get noticed. Can’t say too much more – you’ll have to be there!

And after a while it seemed just that… a mission. I am told the going was much better this year, but after the first slippery climb came the SNOW! Drifts that were deep enough to go beyond my waist. I tried to remain in the steps of those in front of me but could not decide if sinking to my own depth was worse or better than stepping into their depth. There was fun to be had out there along with the frozen feet. Read more
Bash Trail Day

This is the 4th year for the Bimbler’s Bash 10k (ish) and each year proceeds from the event have been donated to the Guilford Land Conservation Trust who preserve many local open space properties, including Westwoods where the race takes place. This year as well as the event itself we propose to hold a Trails Day on Sunday March 14th after the second Bite of the Bash, and hope that as many runners as possible will contribute a few hours of their time to help with this project. Tick Key

It’s hard to imagine that it won’t be too long before running in the woods will have to be followed with a tick check afterwards. If you have a dog, you may even have to be on the lookout for the little critters even sooner. Removing ticks is sometimes tricky but the Tick Key is a neat gadget that was designed and manufactured here in Connecticut. Read more
A softer ride for barefoot runners

Nature News has just published an article about Harvard professor Daniel Lieberman who has ditched his trainers and started running barefoot. His research shows that barefoot runners, who tend to land on their fore-foot, generate less impact shock than runners in sports shoes who land heel first. This makes barefoot running comfortable and could minimize running-related injuries. Read more

Use a Garmin or other GPS device to records your training runs? I have a Forerunner 305 and initially used the Training Center software supplied by Garmin. But recently I’ve been using another application which seems much better. Read more
