I wanted to share this post because Max King is one of my heroes in the world of running.

Long Slow Distance

I have switched up my training from mountain running to long distance running.  I have chosen three races to complete my year. This is going to be a trip!

9/2/12       Jay Peak 50k.

10/21/12   Bluff 50k.

11/3/12      Stone Cat 26.2m.

So my training mantra is what Wise man once said. “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” Confucius

I Heart Vermont

While at Plymouth, staying at the homestead, President and Mrs. Coolidge paid their respects at the graves of their son, Calvin Jr. (who died in July of 1924 at the age of 16) and the President’s father (he died in Plymouth on March 18, 1926). (Hall, p. 293) The train moved them through Vermont and at the last stop in Vermont before leaving the state, Calvin spoke. Obviously moved by his memories and visits with friends and relatives, he spoke from the heart.

Vermont is a state I love. I could not look upon the peaks of Ascutney, Killington, Mansfield, and Equinox, without being moved in a way that no other scene could move me. It was here that I first saw the light of day; here I received my bride, here my dead lie pillowed on the loving breast of our eternal hills.

I love Vermont because of her hills and valleys, her scenery and invigorating climate, but most of all because of her indomitable people. They are a race of pioneers who have almost beggared themselves to serve others. If the spirit of liberty should vanish in other parts of the Union, and support of our institutions should languish, it could all be replenished from the generous store held by the people of this brave little state of Vermont.

No Time To Hate

Pack Monadnock 10 Miler Race Report 6/03/12.

This is race #3 of the USATF-New England Mountain Running Series. Hhere is the link to Pack Monadnock 10 Miler http://www.packmonadnockrace.com/. I ran this race last year with some difficulty. This year I was determined to crush my previous time of 2:03:09. Well I did with a time of 1:44:40 ! Its a great training run for mountain running on pavement. The event is well organized. Its a point to point race with the finish on the summit of Pack Monadnock Mt. (2290′) which is the highest peak of the Wapack Range in south central  New Hampshire. The weather this day was drizzly and comfortable. The next race is to the summit of Mt. Washington (6288′) by going up the Auto Road. I can’t wait!! Suds

Wachusett Mt. Race Report 5/26/12

This is race #2 in the USATF-New England Mountain Running Series. It takes place in Princeton, Massachusetts. and is less than two hours from home. I know its a long way to go for a short race but I was shooting for a P.R. and need the hill training for The “Big One”. Its a hard and fast 4.7 mile run with some road and some trail. The weather was 75 degrees, warm and humid with some sunshine. The coarse has not changed from the previous year since there is still construction on the summit road. This race presents a real challenge. [Read more...]

A Leatherman’s Loop Race Report

100_0058 4/23/2012
Mostly Cloudy and Cool around 50.
This is a special day in trail running where about 1200 runners will run The Loop around Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, New York. This is the largest trail running event around. I have run this coarse two times before in 2009 and 2010. I was very excited this year to be able to participate.
Saturday was a busy day at the store and my 9 hour shift went by fast. Plans after work were to get to New York City by 9 p.m. and hang with an old buddy and go out to a kind gourmet vegan dinner. Bimbler’s were to leave [Read more...]

Leatherman’s Loop Navajo/Irish Poem

Beauty before me when I run.
Beauty behind me when I run.
Beauty below me when I run.
Beauty above me when I run.
Beauty beside me when I run.
Beauty within me when I run.

I see Beauty all around.
In beauty may I walk.
In beauty may I see.
In beauty may we all be.

Push Me,Pull Me – A Bimbler’s Bash Race Report

The Bash is one of my favorite trail races. It was here in 2007 that I officially joined the running community and made a lifetime commitment to use trail running as my ultimate form of exercise and connection with nature and friends. No better place to enjoy this experience than Westwoods in Guilford.
This years race fell on April Fools day and I did my best to joke about it. Like weather predictions of possible snow for race day and the idea that the race coarse will be run in the opposite [Read more...]
